Fresh Jawla Bhaji

These are tiny shrimps, what the Brits call Potted Shrimps and the Parsis Kuto.  Fritters made with chickpea flour and were bursting with fishy flavours balanced by salt.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh medium size Jaola
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 tblspn Ginger& garlic paste
  • 2 tblspn Red Chilli powder
  • 1 ½ Pathare Prabhu masala powder
  • ½ tspn Turmeric
  • 2 Green Chilli small chopped
  • Handful of Coriander chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 cup Besan (you adjust besan accordingly

Instructions

  • Smash onion with all the masala with your hands, and add washed, strained Jaola (press it with your hand and remove from it.)
  • Now add Besan in it
  • Consistency should be slightly thick so that you can lift it and make muthe (lumps).
  • Fry it and serve hot with sauce or chutney.
